Seán died peacefully today, 30th January 2026, in the tender and compassionate care of the staff of the Cherry Ward, University Hospital Waterford, with his loving family by his side.
Seán, dearly loved and devoted husband of Patsy (née Egars), his best friend and partner throughout life. Treasured and deeply loved father to Annette, Edward, Kevin, Caroline and Fionn. A proud and much adored grandfather to John, Isla, Ethan, Sarah and Zoe.
Seán will be deeply missed and forever remembered with love by his heartbroken wife, daughters and sons, son-in-law Kevin, daughters-in-law Katy and Michelle, sister Eileen, and brother-in-law Peter.
Predeceased by his parents John and Annie Stapleton and his brother Edward.
Seán was a proud family man who took great pride in his parish and community. He will be fondly remembered by many as a man “who could fix anything” and was usually the first person called for any local electrical, plumbing or TV related issue. He will be remembered for his almost sixty years of providing entertainment as a member of the Rathanna Drama Group, and undoubtedly by so many more for being a little happier for him having crossed their path, such was the measure of the man.
The family wish to extend their sincere and heartfelt thanks to all who cared for Seán, especially the staff of the University Hospital Waterford, for their kindness, compassion and dedication shown to Seán and his family, and also his GP, Dr Christopher Coffey.
Rest in Peace
