All the readings this weekend are about the law.  We have a love-hate attitude towards the law. Sometimes we complain about the law while on the other hand we have become a very litigious society, where we demand our rights and if someone steps on our rights we sue them. The first reading of our mass today: “Now, Israel…you” Whenever

We come to day to the end of our prayerful consideration of the 6th chapter of St. John’s gospel. The Babylonians are threatening the nation with extinction. When a capital city is under siege it’s a disaster for everyone. Jeremiah knew that a divided and scattered Israel would not be able to fulfil its mission

Our second reading today is taken from the beginning or introduction of the Letter of St. Paul to the Ephesians. Ephesus in the time of Paul was a very sophisticated city; it was a port town, cultural crossroad for many different peoples. It still stands today. Paul is talking to this sophisticated community. “Blessed be God…presence” All of Christianity is

Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time – B

Our readings today deal with different aspects of being a prophet. Every baptised person is called to be a priest, king and prophet. A prophet is a proclaimer of the word of God. The first reading is from the Book of Ezekiel. Ancient Israelites said you should not read this book until you were 50 or over, as it is
